Description

The Clock Tower at the junction of Frederick Street and Vyse Street is a Grade II listed structure built in 1903. This cast iron clock tower is situated in the middle of a road junction and was erected to commemorate Joseph Chamberlain's visit to South Africa when he was Secretary of State for the Colonies. The tower features a pedestal base with volutes at the corners, a tall square section panelled shaft, and a console corbelled square clock stage that has segmental pedimented clock faces. It is topped with a segmental cupola.
