42, VILLA ROAD B19

No. 42 Villa Road is a villa built between 1840 and 1850, located in Lozells, Birmingham. This two-storey building features a three-bay front with rich Italianate details. It has a moulded plinth and vermiculated quoins. The first floor has a guilloche sill band and a bed mould to the frieze, which is adorned with a dentil course beneath modillion brackets that support the flat eaves of the low gable end slate roof. The villa has corniced chimney stacks topped with ornamental pots and two segmental pedimented dormers.

The windows are tripartite sash windows; those on the first floor are framed in eared architrave surrounds with aprons, below a sill band decorated with diaperwork and flanked by consoles. The ground floor windows have panelled architraves and consoles that support cornices linking to the aprons of the first floor. The entrance features a Tuscan pier doorway with a deep entablature and a bracketed cornice, leading to a six-panel door set in panelled reveals.
