Description
This is an 1870 red brick terrace of three-storey townhouses located on Hamstead Road. The terrace originally comprised numbers 28A through 46 (even). The properties have slate roofs with small decorative brackets in the eaves. Upper floors feature sash windows with stucco sills; the first-floor windows have grooved stucco flat arches and keystones, and most retain their original glazing bars. Numbers 40 have had a bay window and dormer inserted in the early 20th century, while numbers 28A, 30, 32, 34, 36, 38, 46 have late 19th or 20th-century bay windows on the ground floor. Number 42 retains its original tripartite window with slender, fluted columns dividing the panes, thin pilasters flanking the window, small oval panels above the capitals, a shallow moulded cornice with a slight break over the centre light. Most of the properties retain doorways featuring engaged, slender Tuscan columns supporting open pediments, with oval rosettes on the entablature. Most retain their original six-panel doors and fanlights. Number 44 is the exception to this detail.
