Description

This is a group of three terraced houses, Nos. 55, 56, and 57 Barker Street, dating from around 1840. The houses are built of brick with stucco dressings, and have slate roofs. Each house is two storeys high and has two bays, with a through passage situated between Nos. 56 and 57. The ground floor features tripartite sash windows framed by architraves, with a rosette-studded frieze flanked by consoles to the cornice, and a pediment blocking course. A side band runs along the first floor. The first-floor sash windows are set in reveals with a frieze and cornice similar to those on the ground floor, although lacking the blocking course. The building has flat boxed eaves. The entrances are round-arched and contain doorcases with reeded, slender columns and a reeded arch over the fanlight.
