Description
Nos 18 and 19 Bennett's Hill, which also includes Nos 51, 52, and 53 New Street, is an early 20th-century building designed in the Edwardian Baroque style. It stands three storeys high with an attic and features a five-bay central section, two additional bays on the left, and a diagonal segment-headed bay at the corner, which serves as the entrance to No 53 New Street. The ground floor has modern shop fronts and an entrance arch flanked by blocked pilasters that support an open and broken pediment adorned with arms. The central section is slightly advanced, with the inner three bays featuring Ionic pilasters that support a broken pediment. Within this framework, Ionic columns hold an open and broken segmental pediment, which contains a round window decorated with garlands. Above this, there is a shallow dome flanked by figures and small polygonal domed cupolas. The windows are sash style, set in moulded frames with cornices on the first floor and keystones and aprons on the second floor. The building occupies an important corner site with New Street.
