Description
Binswood House is a house built between 1828 and 1834, with later additions and alterations from the late 19th and 20th centuries at the rear. It features painted brick with painted stucco on the front and side facades, a Welsh slate roof, and cast-iron railings.
The exterior is two storeys high with four bays; the second bay projects while the fourth is recessed. There are full-height pilaster strips at the ends of the first three bays. The entrance, located in the second bay, has a 20th-century six-panel door flanked by pilaster strips that support a frieze and cornice with guttae. Above the door is an elliptical overlight with glazing bars, all framed by pilaster strips and an elliptical arch. The ground and first floors have tall one-over-one sash windows with sills. The building is finished with a frieze, cornice, and a low parapet with copings, and there are end stacks.
The interior has not been inspected. Binswood Avenue was laid out around 1828, and most of the houses were constructed before 1834. Numbers 1 to 29 (odd) on Binswood Avenue form an architectural group.
