Description
A pair of semi-detached villas, now part of a school, was built around 1828 to 1834, with later additions and alterations. The villas are constructed of reddish-brown brick with painted stucco facades, and have a Welsh slate roof. They are three storeys high, with four first-floor windows, and a single-storey, single-bay extension to the left. A continuous band runs along the first floor; this floor features six-over-six sash windows in plain reveals with tooled architraves, a frieze, a cornice, and sills resting on plain corbels. The second floor has four three-over-six sash windows in plain reveals with tooled, eared architraves, sills. The ground floor has four tall six-over-nine sash windows in tooled, eared architraves and sills. The main entrance is now to the right within the extension, connecting to Binswood Hall. Tall end and central stacks have cornices. The interior has not been inspected. Binswood Avenue was laid out around 1828, and the houses on the west side were finished by 1834. Nos. 1-29 (odd) on Binswood Avenue form an architectural group. The villas are now part of Binswood School.
