Description

Numbers 31 and 31A are a house that has been converted into shops with offices above, along with attached railings. The building dates from around 1826 and has undergone later alterations, including extensions to the rear and mid to late 20th century shop fronts. It is constructed of reddish-brown brick with scored and painted stucco facades on the front and sides, topped with a Welsh slate roof. The building features a cast-iron balcony and railings.

It stands three storeys tall and has three first-floor windows. The first floor has three 10-pane French windows, while the second floor has three 3/6 sash windows set in plain reveals with sills. The ground floor has a central entrance on the left, which is accessed by six roll-edged steps leading to a four-panel door flanked by sidelights and reeded pilasters. This entrance is topped with a modillion cornice and a cambered overlight featuring Gothic glazing. There are also two entrances in the glazed shop front. A frieze, cornice, and low parapet extend to the sides of the building. It has end, rear, and ridge stacks, and the balcony on the right displays a double-heart-and-circle motif. The left return has 6/6 and 3/6 sash windows.

The interior has not been inspected. The railings beside the steps feature anthemion and fleur-de-lys finials. Historical records indicate that Warwick Street was laid out between 1822 and 1826.
