Description

The Country Fare Swan Hotel is a hotel dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with additions from the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a terracotta modillion cornice. The roof is tiled and hipped on the left, with a brick ridge and internal stacks. The building has an L-plan that has been extended to a U-plan, standing three storeys tall with a five-window range.

The central entrance consists of double-leaf, four-panelled doors topped by a fanlight with glazing bars and a panelled intrados. This is framed by a wooden doorcase supported by baseless fluted Doric columns, dosserets, and a broken pediment. The windows are sash style with gauged brick flat arches. The end bay on the right features a small mid-19th century shop front with a hood supported by heavy Gothic brackets.

On the Bleachfield Street side, there is a three-window range that includes a cellar entrance on the left and an inserted door to the right of the central window. An addition on the left has an entrance with a half-glazed four-panelled door and a wooden doorcase with simple pilasters. At the rear, there is an early to mid-19th century two-storey range with a brick dentil cornice and a two-storey segmental bow window with paired sashes. The wide entrance at the rear has a pair of six-panelled doors, and the fenestration is irregular and altered. The interior has not been inspected.
