Description
The Former Woolpack Hotel is a building that dates from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. It is constructed of painted brick and features both plain-tile and slate roofs, which are hipped to the right. The building has brick ridge and end stacks, with two flues that are partly truncated.
The hotel has two ranges that face the Market Place, both of which are three storeys high. The left range, dating from the late 18th century, consists of five windows featuring 12-pane sashes, with a 9-pane sash on the second floor. The central window on the first floor is a 20th-century tripartite sash, and below it is a 20th-century bow window that infills a former carriage arch. The building has a bracketed eaves cornice.
To the right, there is a three-window range with similar sashes and a central canted oriel window on the first floor. The doorway to the left is framed by Tuscan columns and piers in antis, supporting a plain frieze. There is an additional entrance on the right corner that has a glazed door and two 20th-century windows. There are also further sashes on the right side facing Market Street, along with two-storey ranges to the right of this. The building has wings at the rear, but the interior has not been inspected.
