Description
Number 70 is a shop located on the south side of Market Place, dating from the 17th century with some 20th-century alterations. The building is timber-framed and features a 20th-century grey brick front with a plain-tile roof that is hidden behind a parapet. It stands two stories high and has a three-window range of 20th-century 12-pane sash windows with brick cambered heads, along with a 20th-century shop front.
Inside, the building includes stop-chamfered spine beams, a timber-framed partition, and side and rear walling, as well as some original roof structure. At the rear, it is connected by a covered way to a 17th-century timber-framed outbuilding that has a plain-tile roof. This outbuilding consists of two bays of square-panel framing and small casement windows. Its interior features an original roof with curved windbraces, suggesting it may be part of a larger structure. The rear wing of Number 68 is attached to the left.
