Description
St. Giles' House and the adjoining cottage are a pair of cottages dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid to late 19th century and late 20th century. They are constructed with a timber frame and rendered infill on a high rendered plinth, featuring whitewashed brick. The cottages have a tile roof, with a rendered external stack on the left end and a brick end stack on the right. The layout consists of two units, with one storey and an attic that includes three gabled half-dormers from the 19th century. The entrance to St. Giles' House is located in the rear wing, while the adjoining cottage has a 19th-century door and hood. The left side has 20th-century casement windows, and the right side has 19th-century windows, both set under segmental heads on the first floor. The left gable end is rendered, but an old purlin is visible. Inside, St. Giles' House features exposed framing on all original external walls and a simple chamfered ceiling beam. The ground floor has been opened up into a single room, and there is a staircase in a late 20th-century addition at the rear. The cottage shows some exposed framing on the exterior of the front wall but is mainly from the 19th century.
