Description
Rose Cottage is a house located in Moreton Morrell, dating back to the 16th century, with a 20th-century extension at the rear. It features a timber-frame construction with painted brick infill set on a painted stone plinth, topped by a steeply pitched thatch roof that includes a brick axial stack with two diagonal brick shafts. The house has a two-unit plan.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a two-window range. It includes 20th-century doors and windows throughout. The front of the house has a right end of the plinth that has been rebuilt in brick, with a large plastered panel in the center that forms the side of back-to-back fireplaces. There are paired casements at each end of the ground floor and in two eyebrow dormers. The left side of the house features a brick plinth and windows on each floor and in the attic, with similar windows on the right side.
At the rear, there is a large late 20th-century wing to the left of a blocked entrance, along with two windows on the ground floor and an eyebrow dormer. The current entrance is located in the wing adjacent to the right side of the original structure. The right return of the ground floor has three-panel-high square framing with close-studded framing.
The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted to have large fireplaces.
