Description
The Lodge to Moreton Hall, located on the left side of the drive in Moreton Morrell, was built around 1906 by architect W.H. Romaine-Walker. It is a single-storey building with an attic, constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and features a hipped tile roof with a central brick valley stack. The lodge has a square plan with a projection on the right side.
The exterior includes brick quoin strips and a top timber cornice with modillions. The narrow section at the left end of the building breaks back. The entrance is located on the right return in a recessed porch, which features a rubbed brick flat arch with a key block above a fanlight that leads to a four-panel door. The porch is supported by an Ionic column at the angle and two Ionic pilasters, topped with an entablature.
There are two central windows with rubbed brick flat arches above two-light small-paned casements. A flat-roofed dormer above has a cornice with a central segmental pediment over a four-light casement, and the sides are tile-hung. The right return mirrors this with two similar windows and a dormer, along with re-entrant porches on each side, although the porch on the right does not have an entrance. The rear of the lodge is similar in style to the front. The interior has not been inspected.
