Description

Wilcox Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century and 17th century, with extensions and alterations made in the late 18th century. It features a whitewashed timber frame set on a sandstone plinth, with brick gable ends and tile roofs that include a central ridge stack and end stacks, as well as a stone stack at the rear. The building has a T-plan layout with a wing at the rear.

The exterior stands two storeys plus an attic and has a two-window range. On the ground floor, there are three windows: a three-light casement, a two-light casement, and a single-light casement. The first floor features a cross-casement window and a two-light casement. To the right, there is a single-storey and attic extension that includes an entrance with a hood, a two-light casement, and a two-light dormer above. The rear wing has a large stack with a 20th-century brick flue, along with an entrance and various casement windows, including a two-light leaded casement and a likely 17th-century three-light wood ovolo-mullioned window. The brick left return has a modillioned brick cornice at the gable, and a rear catslide outshut is visible.

Inside, the sitting room features a good stone fireplace with a four-centred arch, a moulded spine beam, and close-studded framing. The bedroom above also has a good stone fireplace with two cornice mouldings above the opening, along with jowled wall studs. The kitchen has a flagged floor and an open fireplace approximately three metres wide, with stone jambs and a stone alcove to the right, as well as an inserted 19th-century brick fireplace. The dairy contains a slate thrawl, and old purlins are visible in the room above the kitchen. There is also a small rubble-walled cellar.
