Description

A row of three houses located in Moreton Morrell, dating to the 17th century with one house from the 18th century, and altered in the 19th century. The houses are timber-framed with plastered infill and brick refronting, and have thatched roofs, with the right-hand end now covered in slate. Brick stacks are at the front of the ridge, and at the rear of the ridge.

The houses have a 2-plus 2-unit plan, with a 2-unit addition to the right end, and a gable facing the front. They are single-storey with attics, with a 4-window range for the main section, and a 2-window range for the right-hand cottage, Roadside Cottage. There is a cogged brick frieze at the top. The ground floor has segmental-headed entrances and windows, with 2- or 3-light casements with small panes of glass. Four eyebrow dormers have 2-light casements.

Glencoe Cottage, the left-hand house, has two entrances. The left-hand entrance is a later straight-headed design, with plank doors flanking a 3-light casement, and a 2-light casement to the left, originally a 3-light window but narrowed to accommodate the entrance. There is a small lean-to outshut at each end. The central cottage has a lean-to canopy over the entrance, which has a 4-fielded-panel door. There are 3- and 2-light casements, and one dormer has leaded glazing. Roadside Cottage has plain eaves, and a central entrance with a gabled canopy over a 4-panel door in a heavy frame. It has 20th-century casements. The brick return to the street on the right-hand side has a steeper roof pitch to the right, and two small windows with pegged frames have 4-pane glazing. The rear has exposed timber framing; the right-hand end cottage has slender timber scantlings.

Inside Glencoe Cottage there are chamfered spine beams, a large fireplace with a bressumer, and a wide-boarded door to the right with strap hinges.
