Description
The Dell is a house located in Preston on Stour, dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, with restorations from the 20th century. It features a timber-frame structure with plastered infill sitting on a rubble plinth, a renewed tile roof, and a brick lateral stack on the return and another stack at the front of the ridge. The building has a two-unit plus cross-wing plan.
The exterior is single storey plus attic and has a three-window range. The entrance, located to the left of the center, features a wide-boarded studded door within a moulded surround. The windows are mostly renewed leaded casements, with the majority being three lights, except for one two-light window at the right end. The attic includes gabled dormers. The ground floor left end displays close-studded framing, while the rest of the structure is square framed. The right return has timber-framing with painted brick infill and features a canted oriel with a pair of two-light casements above. At the rear, there is a single-storey gabled wing. The interior has not been inspected.
