Description
13 and 14 are a pair of estate cottages built between 1852 and 1856 for James Roberts West. They are constructed of brick and feature a fishscale tile roof with decorative cresting and brick stacks with clustered diagonal shafts. The cottages are designed in a T-plan and stand two storeys high, with a symmetrical two-window range. The wide eaves and gables have chamfered brick cornices. Each entrance, located at either end, has a four-centred head and a labelmould above a plank door fitted with enriched strap hinges. The ground floor windows are segmental-headed with brick sills and labelmoulds above three-light casements that include cast-iron lattice glazing. The first floor features windows with two-light casements beneath gablets. The returns of the cottages have single lights on the ground floor and two-light casements on the first floor. The interiors have not been inspected. These cottages were built as part of a model estate village and are arranged with three other pairs to create a symmetrical composition.
