Description

36 and 37 Clifford Chambers comprise three cottages, now used as two dwellings, dating back to the 18th century with a later addition. The construction is primarily painted brick, topped with a renewed tile roof incorporating older tiles to the left end, alongside two brick lateral stacks. The building has a gable facing the road to the right. The layout is based on three units, with the left-hand unit being a later addition.

The exterior is single-story with an attic. It features a top modillioned brick cornice and a beam over the ground floor of the right-hand unit. A segmental-headed entrance on the right-hand unit has a 20th-century split door. Five segmental-headed windows on the ground floor have two-light leaded casements; the window to the left of the entrance was formerly an entrance, and the window to the right of the entrance is single. Three gabled dormers are present, with the left-hand dormer featuring a two-light leaded casement with an iron opening casement, while the right-hand dormers have 20th-century leaded replacements. A lateral stack is located at the straight joint to the left of the center, and another stack is at the right end.

The right return to the street shows segmental-headed windows with 20th-century casements on both floors. The left return has a window with a 20th-century leaded casement to the left of the entrance, along with a 20th-century door. The first floor has a window with a two-light leaded casement with an iron opening casement.

The rear, facing the churchyard, includes a plastered plinth, a segmental-headed window with a brick-blocked two-light pegged wooden frame alongside an inserted light, a gabled dormer, and a skylight. The right-hand unit features a fascia board. The interior was not inspected. The cottages face a small square off the main street.
