Description
Preston Bagot House is a farmhouse, now a house, likely built in the mid-18th century with later additions and alterations, including those from around 1860. It is constructed of reddish-brown brick in Flemish bond and features a plain-tile roof.
The building has two storeys with attics and a three-window range, flanked by single-storey, single-bay ranges on the sides and a 19th-century range at the rear. The central entrance consists of a six-fielded-panel door set within a stuccoed brick porch, which is adorned with Doric pilasters, a frieze, an architrave, and a cornice. The windows throughout are modern casements with wooden mullions and transoms, arranged as three-light in the outer bays and two-light in the centre first-floor bay, all located within the original window openings under cambered brick arches. A rubbed dentil eaves band adds detail to the roofline, which is hipped on the main range. Roof dormers feature two-light casements and hipped roofs. There are two stacks at the apex of the hip on each side, with the right side having an external stack, and the side ranges also have hipped roofs.
Inside, the original joinery includes panelled shutters that can be seen in the ground-floor rooms. The house is believed to have fireplaces and a staircase dating from around 1860.
