Description
The Glebe House is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the mid-18th century with earlier origins and later alterations from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of red brick, with the front dating to around 1840, featuring Flemish bond and a chequer pattern in buff brick. The roof is covered with blue plain tiles and has brick projecting end stacks, along with brick dentilled eaves. The building has two storeys and an attic, with a three-window range that includes a three-light casement on either side of a central two-light window. A 20th-century gabled porch leads to a part-glazed door with an overlight. There are three dormers, and a hipped and lean-to roofed extension is located on the left end. At the rear, there is a small earlier timber-framed wing along with 19th-century extensions that have been altered in the 20th century.
Inside, the house features chamfered beams with jewel stops, an open fireplace with a reused bressumer that was inserted long ago, and a visible fireplace hood on the first floor. There are six-panel and plank doors, an early 19th-century fireplace and grate, and exposed timbers in the rear wing. The staircase is from the 20th century, and the roof has a queen-post structure with old purlins.
