Description
This building, located 3 meters south of Number 1 Old Tree Cottages, was originally two cottages and dates from the late 17th century, with a late 18th century extension on the left. It is constructed from squared coursed ironstone with quoins and features a thatch and slate roof, which has brick ridges and end stacks; the right stack retains its original stone base and cornice.
The structure is one storey plus an attic and has a three-window range. The late 18th century extension to the left is two storeys high with a two-window range. On the right side of the 17th century section, there is a plank door with a wooden lintel, and above it, an oval-shaped light. To the left, center, and right of this section are three-light wooden casements; the right one has a wooden lintel, while the left and center ones have hood moulds with label stops. A lead Britannia firemark is located below. The 18th century range features a plank door and three-light casements at all openings, with the door and ground floor casement having lintels with keyblocks. A 19th century brick range to the right includes a wooden casement.
Inside, the 17th century section has chamfered beams with broach stops, and an open fireplace that features a bressumer with stepped stops and a brick-lined oven to the right. The late 18th century range also has chamfered beams, but with run-out stops.
