Description

The Village Stores and The Nest Cottage is a 17th-century house, subsequently adapted for use as a shop and dwelling. It has undergone later alterations, including 20th-century additions to the front left. The construction combines small, square panels of timber framing with pinkish-brown brick infill laid in an English garden wall bond, along with some painted plaster infill. A thatched roof tops the building. The original plan was based on three units.

The exterior is single-storied with attics, presenting a five-window front. The shop to the left features a glazed display window and entrance. A plank door, within a wooden surround, provides access to the house on the right side of the main elevation, flanked by two casement windows. Five thatched raking dormers contain casement windows. The steeply-pitched gabled roof has stacks with cornices at the left end and ridge. Timber framing is visible on the left gable end.

The interior was not inspected.
