Description

The Crown Barn, located on Henley Road in Claverdon, is a 17th-century barn that has been converted into a house, with additions and alterations made in the 19th century and again around 1985. It is constructed with a timber frame, filled with reddish-brown brick nogging, and sits on a plinth of blue lias rubble. The roof is covered with plain tiles, and there are brick stacks. The barn incorporates a small medieval fragment in the right gable end.

The barn is single-storied with an attic and has four bays, with the eastern bays being taller. A range of cart sheds are situated to the rear (east). An off-centre entrance to the threshing floor, originally with plank doors (now fixed), has been replaced with a 20th-century part-glazed plank door on the east side and a panelled door on the west. Casement windows with lead cames are found throughout. An attic dormer with a matching casement window is on the left side; a Velux window is on the right. A rear stack is present. The roof slopes down in a catslide fashion on the west side.

The interior of the barn was not inspected.

The barn forms a group with the nearby Crown Farmhouse.
