Description

Fox Hill is a house located on Henley Road in Claverdon, dating from the 17th century with later additions and alterations, including work to the west in the 18th century and late 19th century, as well as a rear west extension added in 1938. The building features small, square panels of timber-framing on the right unit and the east gable end, with angle braces and brick nogging. The main structure is primarily constructed of pinkish-brown brick and has a plain-tile roof.

The house has a three-unit, lobby entrance plan and was originally composed of two framed bays, although the walls of the west bay were rebuilt in brick when an additional bay was added. It is a single storey plus attic with a three-window range. The entrance is off-centre to the east and features a plank door set in a solid frame with a cornice above. To the west, there is a canted bay window with 20th-century casements, and to the right, two small casement windows. The two units on the west have a first-floor, two-course band. The gabled roof is half-hipped to the west and includes three gabled dormers fitted with casements. There are west, front, and internal stacks, as well as a ridge stack, and a range to the rear under a hipped roof.

Inside, the house features an inglenook fireplace with a bressumer in the centre room, 17th-century bridging beams, elm floorboards, and wide-plank doors. A winder staircase located beside the stack has some stick balusters. The east end showcases extensive exposed timbering, and the 17th-century roof framing includes two queen strut trusses, purlins, and rafters.
