Description
The barn at The Reddings is a Grade II listed structure located on Langley Road in Claverdon. It dates from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with some alterations made in the 19th century. The barn features timber framing with reddish-brown brick nogging, stone plinth in part, and a plain-tile roof. It consists of six bays with outshuts on either side of a centrally located porch.
The exterior of the barn has five entrances. The gabled full-height porch, which is set off-centre to the right, has been updated with renewed plank doors and timber framing in the gable. This porch is flanked by two outshuts; the right outshut includes a plank door and a casement window, while the left outshut, which has a catslide roof, was originally a pigsty and features low plank doors. To the left of the porch, there are steps leading to a loft accessed through a plank door in a moulded wood surround. There is also a renewed plank door under an elliptical arch and a small window nearby. A gabled attic window has lattice lights, and the barn has a gabled roof. The barn extends to the right, but its facade is obscured by a later range of stables.
Inside, the two bays on the left have a floor and exposed timber framing. The threshing floor includes cross-frames, and beside it is a collar-and-tie-beam truss with queen posts and upper angle struts, along with tie-beam trusses featuring lower angle struts, all supported by clasped principals. The barn forms a group with The Reddings.
