Description
Cophill Farm Barn, formerly known as Redding's Farm barn range, is a threshing barn and stable range that has been converted into a house. It dates from the 17th century, with later nogging and a stable range likely from the 18th century. The barn is timber-framed with brick nogging on a lias stone plinth, and the stable range is built of reddish-brown brick, all topped with plain-tile roofs. The building is L-shaped, with the stable range adjoining at right angles to the rear right.
The exterior features a long, approximately five-bay range that is now two storeys high, with a gabled porch that has cart doors opposite the former threshing floor and a single-storey stable range. The barn facades include small, square panels of timber-framing, and there are casement windows in wooden frames throughout. Access to the rear range is through a 20th-century plank stable door. A large 20th-century external stepped stack is located at the front left, with an additional stack on the rear extension. The roofs are gabled, with a catslide roof to the right at the rear and a single-storey cart entrance opposite the former threshing floor, featuring double plank doors in a gabled porch.
Inside, the barn showcases extensive exposed square timber-framing, some of which has been renewed. The roof structure includes a collar-and-tie-beam truss with queen struts. The barn was converted into a dwelling around 1982.
