Description

Filbert Cottage French Restaurant and Le Filbert Cottage is a house that has been converted into a restaurant. It dates from the 17th century, with an addition from the 18th century. The building features a timber-frame structure, roughcast to the front, and painted brick infill on the return side facing Station Road. It has a steeply pitched slate roof with a brick stack at the front ridge and another similar stack on the return side. The layout is L-shaped.

The exterior is two storeys high and has a two-window range, along with a jettied gabled cross wing on the right. The entrance to the wing includes a four-fielded-panel door set in a moulded surround. To the left of the centre, there is a canted bay window topped with a hipped roof and small-paned glazing. A similar bay window is found under the jetty of the wing. On the first floor, there are two windows featuring two-light small-paned casements with iron opening casements, along with a 20th-century small-paned casement in the wing.

The right return of the building displays square framing, wide eaves, and a lean-to outshut that provides an entrance to the return side, which has varied window styles. The rear includes a large 20th-century flat-roofed dormer and a brick wing with a gabled half-dormer. The interior has not been inspected.
