Description

College Farmhouse, now a house, was originally built in the early 17th century, with later additions dating to the 18th and 19th centuries to the rear. The main part of the building is constructed of regular coursed ironstone, while the 18th-century wing has a slate roof. The roof itself is tiled, with stone ridge stacks which have been rebuilt with splayed string courses and cornices. The house follows a three-unit lobby entry plan.

The two-storey front elevation has a three-window range. An entrance, set between the second and third bays, features a chamfered Tudor-arched doorway with a large lintel and hood mould, now with a 20th-century door. A 20th-century entrance has been inserted between the first and second bays, with a stable door and wood lintel. Original windows include 3- and 4-light stone-mullioned windows, all with hood moulds. A mid-20th century dormer has been added to the roof. The return sides feature windows ranging from 2 to 4 lights.

At the rear is a 17th/18th-century staircase projection. An 18th-century wing on the left side features a slate roof. A cellar is present, with access to the garden and a 2-light mullioned window. A 3-light casement window sits above the cellar door, and a door is on the right return side. A 19th-century brick lean-to is attached to the right, again with a slate roof.

The interior retains stepped-stop broad-chamfered ceiling beams and an open fireplace with a bressumer, alongside a later 20th-century fireplace. Original plank doors and winder stairs are also present.
