Description

The Mount is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with additions from the mid-to-late 19th century and alterations in the 20th century. It is constructed of regular coursed ironstone and has slate roofs. The 17th-century range has coped gable parapets with kneelers; brick ridge stacks are also present. The building originally comprised two units and has since been extended to a T-plan with a cross wing on the left.

The house is two storeys high, with a basement and attic, and has a four-window front. The entrance front is entirely from the 19th century and features a central, moulded, four-panelled door with an overlight. The left half of the house projects slightly. Ground floor windows are sash windows with margin bars, and those above are six-pane sashes. Stone lintels with keystones are above the door and windows. A French window with margin bars is to the right, above which is a three-light casement window with horizontal bars. Painted wood lintels are also present. The left wing, which may have been an outbuilding originally, has two 20th-century ground floor windows. A half-glazed, four-panelled door is located on the right return side. The rear of the house, facing Middle Lane, has a 17th-century range on the right with stone-mullioned windows and hood moulds. There are two two-light basement windows, and three-light windows above. The ground floor windows originally had mullions but now contain casements with glazing bars and painted wood lintels. A two-light attic window is also present. One gable has a sunk panel with a cornice; it may contain an illegible datestone and a circular opening. A two-window range from the 19th century is located to the left and has windows similar to those on the entrance front. The interior was not inspected.
