Description

Tiddly Bank Cottage is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with 19th century underbuilding and an 18th century rear wing. There are minor alterations from the 20th century. The cottage is timber framed with plastered infill, possibly over wattle and daub, and has brick underbuilding at the left and right ends and return sides. The rear wing is made of whitewashed brick. It features a thatched roof with brick end stacks and has a two-unit plan that extends to an L-shape with the wing on the left at the rear. The cottage is one storey and has an attic, with a one-window range. The ground floor has a three-window arrangement, including a central plank door and an adjoining window. A late 20th century open porch made of old timbers has a hipped thatched roof. The windows are late 20th century two-light casements with glazing bars. The first floor has an eyebrow dormer on the left with a small old two-light casement, and the return sides feature two-light attic casements. The rear wing has a 20th century half-glazed door and a mid-20th century open-fronted porch, along with a three-light casement and a swept dormer with a two-light casement. Inside, the front room, which was formerly two rooms, has two altered open fireplaces, exposed framing, and ceiling beams. The rear wing has a stepped-stop-chamfered ceiling beam, and the first floor retains some exposed wattle and daub. The roof is a through-purlin type. The cottage is included for its group value.
