Description

Rose Cottage is a cottage dating from the early to mid-17th century, with later rebuilding and repairs to the main range and a wing. It is timber-framed, with some parts exposed, and some rendered with brick. The roof is thatched, half-hipped, and has two ridge stacks that have been rebuilt. The cottage is arranged in an L-shape with one storey and an attic. The front wall of the main range is now brick, while the north-west end wall retains some original timber framing, including a main post with a jowled head, and there is more original framing visible in the rear wall. A single boxed dormer window is on the front. The ground floor has small-paned, modern wood casement windows. The wing has exposed timber framing, some of which features upward bracing, characteristic of other cottages from the same period in the area, and also has one storey and an attic, with modern wood casement windows. The doorway is now located in the re-entrant angle of the wing. The interior has been modernised. The cottage is included on the list for its group value.
