Description

Terra Cotta Cottage is a house with a 16th-century core, largely rebuilt in the 17th century, and extended on its south side in the mid- to late-18th century. It is timber-framed, with plaster rendering and a thatched roof, featuring a brick ridge stack. The house has a single-range plan of three bays and is one storey with an attic. It has one boxed dormer and three modern wood casement windows on the ground floor. A modern brick porch fronts the centre bay, providing access to the front door.

Inside, the original 18th-century parlour contains an inglenook with a red brick bread oven and a later 18th-century hearth. The original 16th-century house is visible on the first floor, retaining two pairs of intermediate posts. A pair of posts in the chimney bay show downward wall bracing on the north wall. The 17th-century house originally had a single-storey bay at the east end, which has since had its roof raised, leaving the original wall plate and tie beam in place.
