Description
Rectory Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 18th century, or possibly the late 17th century, which was remodeled and extended in the mid to late 19th century. It is built of painted Flemish bond brick, with English bond brick on the northwest gable end. The house features a thatched roof with gabled ends and visual stacks that have rebuilt brick shafts. The building has an L-shaped plan, with a two-room front range that includes a wide entrance hall at the center containing a staircase, and a service wing at the rear of the right-hand room. There are outshuts at the rear of both the main range and the wing. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-window southwest front. The windows are tripartite sashes, with a four-pane central sash and narrower sidelights set in a segmented sash opening. The central doorway features a moulded four-panel door with sidelights and margin panes, topped by a flat canopy on wooden braces. The southeast side has similar sashes and a doorway on the side of the rear wing with a gabled canopy. At the rear of the main range, there is an outshut, and on the northwest side of the rear wing, there is a later glazed pentice. The end of the rear wing has a weather-boarded outshut.
Inside, the two ground floor rooms in the front range have relatively low ceilings with boxed-in axial beams. The wide central hall contains a Victorian staircase. The interior generally features 19th-century joinery and a Victorian cast-iron chimney piece in one of the chambers.
