Description

Shipley Grange Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from around the mid 18th century, with later additions and alterations from the late 18th to early 19th centuries. It is built of Flemish bond red brick, featuring brick platbands and a corbelled brick cornice. The roof is covered with clay plain tiles and has gabled ends, with brick stacks projecting at the gable ends. The building has an L-shaped plan with a double-depth range at the rear and stands two storeys high with an attic.

The front of the farmhouse is symmetrical with three windows, each having cambered brick arches above. The windows are wooden mullion-transom types with iron casements and lead horizontal glazing bars. The original two-light windows are located on the first floor, while the ground floor has larger openings that accommodate three-light windows from the early 19th century. The central doorway features a rectangular overlight and a panelled door. There are two gabled dormers on the roof, each with two-light casements and horizontal glazing bars.

At the rear, there is a wing with two gabled ranges, a central valley, and a parapet. Inside, the entrance hall contains a fine oak open-well staircase with turned balusters. The room to the right features late 18th to early 19th century fluted pilasters, panelling, and a mid 18th century chimneypiece. The room to the left has a large former open fireplace with a moulded mantel shelf and cupboards on either side. Some rooms have panelled doors, while others feature moulded boarded doors with H-hinges.
