Description

The Gate House is a house dating from the mid to late 18th century, with an 18th or 19th century addition to the left and an early to mid 19th century rear wing. There were also alterations made in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of colourwashed brick and features a string course and a dog-tooth cornice. It has a roof covered with old plain tiles, with brick stacks at the ridge and right end. The house is designed in an L-plan, with the wing on the left side facing the drive.

It stands two storeys tall and has a four-window range. The main front, which is irregular and faces the garden, includes four-pane sash windows, most of which have gauged brick flat arches. On the ground floor, there are two large late 19th century canted bay windows with plate-glass sashes; the left bay window features a French window, while there is a sash window to the right. The narrow addition to the left has a ground-floor sash window and a lean-to roof. The first-floor window on the left has a rendered flat arch.

On the right side, there is a cross-glazed fixed-light window with a brick segmental arch on the ground floor. The two-window wing has a half-glazed flush six-panelled door on the left, set within a moulded wood doorcase that includes pilaster strips and a cornice hood. The ground floor features three-light windows with fixed lights that have glazing bars. The building also has a firemark and a dentil cornice. The interior has not been inspected. The Gate House is included for its group value.
