Description

This is a cottage, originally semi-detached and formerly detached, dating back to the 17th century, with an extension added in the 18th century. The right-hand portion is timber-framed with brick infill, while the left-hand portion is built of Flemish bond brick. The roof is thatched, with a half-hipped shape on the left side and a brick stack at the right end. The building originally comprised one unit, later extended to a two-unit plan. It has one storey and an attic, with a two-window front. A timber and brick porch, constructed in the late 20th century, sits centrally and features a thatched, hipped roof. It has a ribbed door and a side-light. Ground-floor windows on the front and left return are casements with glazing bars, with a brick segmental arch above the left window. The first floor contains swept dormers, with a small, cross-glazed two-light casement to the left and a three-light casement with numerous glazing bars to the right. The rear of the building also features a swept dormer. A late 20th-century outshut has been added to the right side. Inside, the room on the left retains exposed timber framing from the original external wall and has an ogee-stop-chamfered ceiling beam. The room on the right features a late 20th-century rebuilt open fireplace, along with two original cupboards with fielded panelled doors. Some exposed wattle and daub remains. The first floor has stud partitions and visible timber framing.
