Description
This is a pair of cottages, formerly two cottages with the right-hand one previously a shop. The core of the building dates to the 17th century, with additions and alterations made in the 19th century to the right side of the left cottage and the rear of the right. The structure is timber framed, featuring large framing with some tension braces, and infill and underbuilding using whitewashed brick. Later brick additions are whitewashed at the front. The roof is covered in old plain tiles, with brick ridge and left-end stacks.
The original layout was a three-unit plan, extended to an L-shape with a wing on the rear right. The building is two storeys high and has a three-window front. The right-hand cottage features a recessed stable door and overlight in place of a 19th-century shop front, with a window consisting of six large panes beneath a wooden lintel. The other cottages have a 3-light ground-floor casement and a 2-light first-floor casement, both with glazing bars. The left return side reveals exposed timber framing with large tension braces. A recessed 20th-century part-glazed door is present. The rear wing is characterized by a dog-tooth cornice. The interior has not been inspected. This building possesses group value from the period.
