Description
Nos. 17 and 21, Main Street form a pair of cottages dating to the mid to late 18th century, with alterations in the 19th century. The main range (No. 21) is constructed of whitewashed brick and features a string course and a thatched roof with a brick ridge stack. It is one storey and attic in height, with a three-window front. The windows are predominantly 3-light casements with glazing bars, though some openings have been enlarged. Three porches are present, two open with half-glazed doors, and one to the right with glazed panels and a stable door. Two swept dormers with cross-glazed 2-light casements are set into the roof.
No. 17 is a mid-19th century addition projecting forward on the left, constructed of brick and covered with a slate roof, featuring a brick stack. It is a one-unit plan, two storeys in height, and has a single-window front. A flush 6-panelled door is located on the right, set within a wooden doorcase with pilaster strips. C20 three-light casements are also present. Ground floor windows throughout are arched with brick segmental arches. The interiors were not inspected. The cottages are included on the list for their group value.
