Description

The barn at Grange Farm, dating from around 1700 and altered over time, is situated approximately 20 metres to the north-east of the farmhouse. It is a timber-framed structure with red brick infill and a corrugated iron roof, consisting of three bays and oriented east-west. The barn features square-panelling with intact wall posts and diagonal braces.

On the south side, the framing of the first bay is nearly complete, while the central bay has been converted to brickwork with a boarded door set beneath a segmental arch. The third bay has incomplete panelling that is obscured by an adjoining building. The rear of the barn shows square-panelling in the third bay, with the rest being brickwork of various ages.

The east gable displays nearly complete framing, with boarded hatch doors located beneath the tie beam of the principal-rafter truss, which has queen posts below a collar and V-struts above. The west gable is similar to the east but lacks framing beneath the tie beam, except for the jambs of a boarded hatch. Inside, there are braces connecting the wall posts to the original principal-rafter trusses, diagonal struts, and original purlins, though no original rafters remain.
