Description
The Barn at The Grange House is a structure dating from around 1700, with some parts encased in brick during the 18th or early 19th century. It features a timber frame resting on a brick sill, with dark weatherboarding on the south side and a roughcast gable triangle on the south. The barn is also partially covered with red brick between the bay posts. It has a steeply pitched old red tile roof that is half-hipped at the west end. This tall, five-bay barn is located at a street corner, facing south, with its back and west gable visible from the roadsides. The central bay has double doors, while the west bay has been rebuilt in brick to serve as a stable, complete with a loft above. There is a stable door and a window on the south side. The upper floor is plastered internally, and the upper door in the gable has been altered. Inside, the barn features jowled posts only at the corners, with unjowled posts elsewhere, and long straight braces connecting to the tie-beams. The roof is supported by inclined queen-struts that connect to the collars of the clasped-purlin roof.
