Description
The barn at Manor House is a cattle-shelter built around the 18th century. It features a timber-framed structure with a red brick rear wall constructed in garden wall bond. The roof is made of corrugated iron with gabled ends, and some thatch remains underneath. The barn has an L-shaped plan, consisting of five bays with a one-bay wing. It is open-fronted, supported by timber posts that hold up the arcade-plate.
Inside, there are low tie-beams that support six trusses with curved cruck-like principals. These principals are tenoned into the tie-beams and halved and crossed at the apexes to support the ridgepiece. The structure includes straight collars that are halved and lapped to the principals, with all joints pegged. The purlins are set on the backs of the principals, and there are battens along with some thatch remaining beneath the iron cladding.
