Description
Colville House and the attached gatepiers, gate, and railings are located on Long Street in Atherstone. This house, part of a row, dates from the early 19th century, with alterations and additions made in the mid to late 19th century. The front of the house is rendered over brick and features plain-tile double-span roofs. It is designed in an L-plan, with a wing extending to the rear on the right side. The building has three storeys and a two-window front range. It has sash windows throughout, including a tripartite window on the ground floor and a 6-pane window on the second floor. The windows are topped with rusticated rendered flat arches that have triple keyblocks.
On the right return side, there is a large canted oriel window on the first floor, which contains a 16-pane sash window and has a panelled base supported by moulded and shaped brackets. The right range, likely added in the late 19th century, features a recessed 6-panelled door with a fanlight, framed by a moulded round arch and Tuscan half-columns within a moulded straight-headed surround that has a cornice. Both ranges of the house have gables supported by shaped brackets. The gatepiers on the left side are from the early to mid-19th century and are made of vermiculated sandstone. The cast iron gate and railings feature continuous X and guilloche bands, along with spear cresting.
