Description
This barn, located 10 meters west of Maxstoke School Farmhouse and adjoining a cattle byre to the southwest, dates from the early to late 17th century, with some 19th-century alterations. It features a timber-framed structure with coursed sandstone rubble and red brick elements, topped with a plain-tiled roof. The north wall has timber-framed bays that are two panels high. There is a wagon entry on the west side, where the westernmost part of the barn is made of coursed sandstone rubble, and dressed sandstone is used for the jamb of the wagon entry. The eastern end of the barn has a 19th-century red brick wall, which has been reduced in height to a single storey. The adjoining cattle byre to the southwest is also constructed of sandstone rubble and has a plain-tiled roof.
