Description
This barn, located about 40 yards south of Hurstley Farmhouse, is likely from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with some later alterations. It features a sandstone rubble plinth and a timber frame with weatherboards and woven infill, along with sandstone rubble and brick elements. The roof is made of Welsh slate and corrugated iron. The barn has a rectangular five-bay layout that runs east to west.
On the south elevation, there is a section of sandstone rubble on the left, probably dating from the early 19th century, which includes two vent loops. The central and right sections are weatherboarded, with woven infill at the top row of panels. There are opposed two-leaved doors for wagon entry to the left of the center, and to the right, a pair of square openings flanks a ledged door. The right-hand return features a weatherboarded and framed lean-to. The west gable has been largely rebuilt in 19th-century brick. The frame consists of three square panels from the cill to the wall-plate, and the interior has raking strut trusses. The barn is included for its group value.
