Description
The Stanley Road Bridge is an early 19th-century canal road bridge located over the Caldon Canal. It is constructed from coursed and squared stone, featuring slightly concave faces. The bridge has a horizontal parapet line and an elliptical arch that projects slightly at the extrados. This section of the Caldon Canal was opened around 1779 to facilitate the transport of limestone from Caldon Low, designed by engineers Henshaw and Rennie.
