Description

This is a milepost dated 1879, made of cast iron. It features a circular shaft with a rectangular display that has a convex face, although the top left corner is damaged. The display is set approximately 600 millimeters above ground level and is divided down the center. On the left side, it is inscribed with "LEEK/5/MILES" and on the right side, it reads "NEWCASTLE/7 MILES/BURSLEM/4 1/2 MILES." The top of the display is domed, and the base of the shaft has an inscription in a quatrefoil panel that says "R & D/STONE/1879."
