Description
Farm Cottage is a house dating from the 17th century, which was remodeled and partly rebuilt in the 18th and 19th centuries. It features a mix of Flemish and garden wall bond brick, with timber framing in the rear wall and dressed sandstone at the west gable end. The roof is covered with clay plain tiles and has gabled ends, with the left end being at a higher level. There are brick axial and gable-end stacks.
The cottage has a three-room plan, with timber framing in the rear wall of the left (west) room and in the partition between the left and center rooms. The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical three-window south front. The windows are 19th-century three-light casements with glazing bars, and the ground floor features cambered brick arches. There is a similar arch above the doorway towards the left end, which has a fielded-panel door. The west gable end is made of dressed and coursed sandstone, with the apex of the gable constructed from brick. The rear (north) side has timber framing on the right, infilled with brick.
Inside, there are some exposed timber framing and chamfered floor beams, one of which has cyma stops. Above the timber framed partition, there is a tie-beam truss.
