Description
Blacksmiths Cottage is a house from the 17th century. The building features red brick on the left side of the ground floor, red brick with grey headers in Flemish bond at the center, and small timber framing with brick infill, some arranged in a herringbone pattern, on the right side of the ground floor and the first floor. The roof is made of old plain tiles, half-hipped on the left and with a cross-gable on the right. There is a brick ridge stack to the left of center and another ridge stack at the rear.
The cottage has a three-unit lobby-entry plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, featuring a three-window range. A 19th-century plank door is located to the left of center, surrounded by a 19th-century brick frame. There are three-light wood casements to the left and center, and a horizontal sash window to the right of center. The first floor jetties out to the right and has three two-light casements, with a cross-gable on the right that includes a two-light wood casement.
The left return shows timber framing with brick infill, while the right return is roughcast, likely over timber framing. Inside, there is extensive beaming and an open fireplace in the center of the ground floor. The queen-post roof has had most of its common rafters replaced.
