Description
Appletree Cottage is a house dating probably from the late 17th century, situated on the east side of Aston Street in Aston Tirrold. The building has a flint base and is likely rendered over a timber frame, with a recent plain-tile roof and a brick ridge stack to the rear cross-wing. It follows a T-plan, with a cross-wing projecting to the rear. The cottage is single-storey with an attic, and has a two-window front. A 20th-century panelled door is located on the right return. There are two 3-light 20th-century wooden casement windows, and two 20th-century dormers. The left return displays large timber framing with brick infill to the ground floor, and rendered panels revealing the queen-post truss of the gable end. A timber-framed cross-wing, also with brick infill, is visible at the rear. Inside, the ground floor right and rear areas feature ovolo-moulded spine beams. There is an open fireplace with a bread oven on the ground floor right, and another open fireplace on the ground floor rear. This building has group value.
